This was a challenging project. The steel staircase and balustrade were the central feature to this new home. The design intent was to create a dynamic structure, which drew one's eye from the lower floor along the stair line to the first floor, with the carefully placed roof lights high above.
115 Golden Lane is a remarkably well preserved Victorian warehouse, comprising a basement and four floors. The architects, Amin Taha Architects, made a bold decision and removed the ground floor entirely, creating a large open space between basement and first floor. Within this area they used the language of the existing cast iron support pillars and their unyielding approach to create an exceptional workspace. Working Metals were contracted to undertake all the steel work in the interior, as well as, the entire thermal bronze sprayed package for the exterior.
